Mobiles and lack of sleep

I’ve been suffering with terrible lack of sleep for the last few months and thought it might have been that I’ve got alot on at the minute.

A colleague pointed out to me that I sit most nights on my phone or tablet marketing my business using social media platforms.  Some nights I’m on my phone till bed time.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all work, work and no play but I didn’t realise how bad it had got.  I would wake up 2am, 3:30 am or 5 am and be unable to get back to sleep.  This was having major impacts on my functionality the next day.

So, over the last few nights I’ve been turning my phone off at 8pm and letting my clients and friends know I will deal with any issues the next day.  Wow!  What a change in my sleep patterns over these last two nights.  I have slept until the alarm clock has went off, felt rested and refreshed.  I couldn’t believe it but it works.

I’ll now be adopting this routine most evenings and will schedule my social media to keep my online presence alive.  Afterall we all need downtime and sleep as we’re unable to give the best performance to our clients and ourselves.

I’ve been doing a bit of research online this morning and found some great articles, which talk about the damaging effects of using tablets and phones in the lead up to bed time.  I hope you find them useful.

    This is a great reminder! Sleep is the most important thing when it comes to your health… and ultimately, your happiness! If you’re happy and healthy, you can be your best and more productive often!

    Most business owners will have suffered with this at some stage. Getting enough *quality sleep* is so important and as you’ve highlighted so often overlooked. Great advice about setting a turn off time for your mobile devices. I also use #Hootsuite to help me schedule my posts and use a few drops of lavender essential oil help aid a relaxing nights sleep.
