I’m currently working with guest bloggers to give the best advice for businesses and their procedures and systems.

I’ve had some amazing guest blogs and this one is no different.

Caroline Wilkinson from Oogly talks about the Top 5 WordPress Plugins you can use.

We hope you enjoy and if you do, please leave a comment.

WordPress is a fantastic platform, not only because of its flexibility in creating a website, blog, or online shop, but because of the massive community that supports it. Part of this support is shown through the production of a huge number of plugins, or add-ons, allowing users to easily add new functionality to their site. The world of WordPress plugins, including both premium and free options, can be a little mind-boggling – there is a plugin available for near-enough every situation. To help those starting out with WordPress, we thought we’d list our top 5 plugins that get installed at the start of all our new WordPress projects.

1. Ultimate Coming Soon Page

Got your domain and email addresses sorted, but want to develop your website without anyone seeing it yet? You can start your online marketing before your website is complete using the Ultimate Coming Soon Page plugin to show a holding page to all visitors, whilst still allowing you access to view your developing website.

2. Better WP Security

There have been an increasing number of attacks on CMS-built websites, including those built with WordPress. Installing this free plugin will allow you to limit login attempts to your site, as well as pointing out any security blunders you may have made. Along with adding this plugin, ensure you have a very strong password to your account and keep your site updated with the latest WordPress version.

3. Backup Buddy

If you’ve worked for months to create a fantastic new site, full of strong copy, interesting blog posts and fantastic images, the worst thing that could happen would be for you to lose all of that content! There are plenty of different backup options out there, but our favourite has to be Backup Buddy – allowing you to take daily backups of all themes, plugins, and files, as well as your SQL database and sending them to an off-site location. You can also choose to download a copy to your computer. We combine Backup Buddy with an Amazon S3 account to store our backups.

4. Yoast WordPress SEO

You’ve built your new site. It’s stylish and full of great content, but no one’s visiting it! This is where Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) comes in. Yoast WordPress SEO plugin helps you write better keyword-focused content, as well as being able to add unique page titles and meta descriptions per page or post. Using the plugin you can create XML site maps to submit to Google Webmaster Tools. It also has social network, RSS and Breadcrumbing options built in. Take their tour to fully understand this plugin’s capabilities and increase your search engine rankings!

5. Contact Form 7

Your chance of customer conversions are going to be increased if users can contact you in an easy manner, so make sure you add a contact form to your site. Contact Form 7 plugin offers the ability to add multiple different forms to your website, with no need for coding knowledge. Many premium themes come bundled with this plugin, due to its simplicity and customisation options. Being able to add multiple forms is of great benefit – allowing you to add a small contact form within your homepage or footer, but also the option for adding a more in-depth form elsewhere, for example if users wanted to request a quote from you.

These are just a few of our favourite plugins – the ones we use most frequently. Take the time to look at all the incredible plugins available through the WordPress community, as well as through premium sites such as As with all things WordPress, keep the plugins up-to-date with the latest released version to ensure site security.
